Discarded Dreams: a year of mattresses is a full color, 86-page softcover book documenting a year-long photography project of accumulating discarded mattresses in the trash and on the streets of New York City. Originally organized as monthly video installments with short written entries, the book shows many of the behind-the-scenes photos of the mattresses in their original contexts.
In addition to close-up shots of the surprisingly beautiful quilted fabrics and the mattresses in their sometimes bizarre locations, the book includes short descriptions of interesting findings, unusual facts, amusing stories, and gross discoveries along the way. It also includes the monthly index of the entire project which totaled 223 mattresses.
